Guided Walk to Codnor Castle

Members of Erewash Liberal Democrats on a walk to Codnor Castle

On a damp post referendum evening at the end of June, a group of Erewash Liberal Democrats took a guided walk to Codnor Castle, one of Derbyshire’s best-kept secrets, with a commanding position overlooking the River Erewash and over into Broxtowe and Ashfield. The walk was led by local historian and Erewash Liberal Democrat member, Robert Mee.

Recent heavy rain had caused some significant flooding and this forced us to abandon our intended circular walk and follow the same route out and back, but this didn’t spoil the walk.

When we arrived at the castle Robert gave us a short talk about the history of the castle and the surrounding area.

All together we were out for around two hours and covered about three miles. An enjoyable time was had by all and it was agreed that we should arrange more walks in the future.
